good husband

our land lady left for salt lake on the 25th to get knee surgery. she told us she would be gone for the following 3 weeks and asked us to get her mail for her while she was away. the other night while we were lying in bed trying to go to sleep, we kept hearing these weird tapping noises upstairs. at first i thought it was just the heater vents being funny {sometimes they do that} but the sounds kept going even after the heater kicked off. i was super tired so i didn't really let it bother me but it started to sound like someone was trying to get in upstairs and not succeeding when all of the sudden they did get in and started moving around like crazy...chris said it sounded like people were moving furniture around. at this point i became very awake and chris decided to go upstairs and check things out. he went to the other room and i half expected him to come out with his pistol {he just grabbed a coat and shoes}. he climbed the stairs and went outside and i waited to see what i could hear. the doorbell rang and a friendly sounding woman answered the door...phew! when chris came back downstairs he said that it was our land lady's daughter and she couldn't find her key to get inside the house. talk about a heart attack! i was just glad that the hubs was around to make sure things were safe because i guarantee if i would have been alone i would have just locked myself in my room and slept with the light on.

not getting my hopes up

for the past 3 days the weather has been looking a lot like spring. the sun has been super shiny and the temperature has been in the 50s. i even broke out my sandals today. but as much as i am excited for spring to finally be here, i know it's too early to be getting my hopes up. last year we got snow off and on into april! but maybe the snow gods have had enough fun for one winter....maybe.

bon voyage!

it's official. we are headed to europe may 15. we finally decided on a 13-night mediterranean cruise that will take us to several places in spain, italy, france, portugal, gibraltar and finally england. i am so excited i can hardly stand it {and i think chris will be excited too once he gets over his buyers remorse}. i've never been to europe or on a cruise. it will be a last fun hurrah for us before the joys of med school begin in august...now if we can just make it through the semester...
{this is the norwegian jade, the ship we will be living on for 13 nights}

...the old man is snoring

sometimes i really hate living in a basement {ok, i hate it all the time}. but yesterday i was hating is more than usual. when we got out of church the sun was shining and it was very pleasant out--not too hot, not too cold. chris and i decided that we'd spend two hours working on a letter to send to UW to help his chances of getting in and then take our bikes out for a stroll. it was all i could do to stay focused for two hours. i love sunday bike rides and we haven't been out in what feels like forever. so we finally get the letter finished and head up the stairs to grab our bikes and head outside. we open the door to pouring rain. cats and dogs rain. seriously. so we drove up to sundance instead. the good thing about driving up there was we saw a moose on the way home.

discount flowers

i was so excited when my floral design teacher told us that a local wholesale floral place was selling 1 dozen bunches of roses for $1.50! that is an amazing steal because usually roses run $2 per stem! i ended up buying 4 dozen for $6 and arranged them in a large vase we have. they are much more open now, but i was too lazy to take another picture. i love having fresh flowers in the house.

ten miles

i think i have a disease. every time i finish a race i get this amazing adrenaline rush and go sign up for another race down the road. for some reason i forget all the training and miles involved. this morning i got up and set out on a run--a 10 mile run. who does that? in order to be somewhat ready for the moab half marathon in 2 weeks i had to run at least 10 miles to feel gooad about life. the first and last miles are always the hardest for me, trying to talk myself into not stopping to walk. luckily, today i succeeded in that battle and will hopefully be "ready" to run the 13.1 in two weeks with my dad.

jill kaufusi tagged me and i'm new at this game, so here goes...

you'd have to define "together" we've been married a little over a year but were together for almost 2 years prior to getting married

Who eats more?

if we're eating ice cream, me, anything else, chris eats more {one tubby tubby, two tubby tubby...just kidding}

chris did only because i'm a chicken and wouldn't say it first

chris, by like 2 inches on a good day

we both belong on broadway

Who is smarter?

chris of course! he's going to medical school in august and i'll be lucky if i graduate in april!

Who sleeps on the right side of the bed?

chris does but occasionally we switch sides to shake things up until we both realize we like sleeping on "our" side of the bed

chris did and it was totally unexpected. so much so that i thought the "surprise" was the black scarf he pulled out of his bag to blind fold me.

i guess i am

chris does, plus he's way better at keeping in touch with people than me

Who has more siblings?

chris does {6 siblings! compared to my 3 sisters}

baby blanket {this one's for you mom}

since i got my new bernina sewing machine for my birthday back in december, i've been itching to make something fantastic. i didn't really have any supplies or real knowledge when i first started out and i was too timid to get into something before starting my sewing class. now that class has been in session for awhile, my confidence has developed a little and i was feeling adventurous. our friends dan and kelli have the most adorable baby and got a super cute baby blanket as a gift. i thought that making one for andra's baby would be the perfect gift. i had only a picture in my head of what it wanted to look like and i set off to the fabric store to get supplies. when i got to joann's i was a little overwhelmed. i had no idea how big it would be, let alone how much fabric i would need. so i started grabbing different types of fabric from the shelves until i had a wide variety of pinks and browns {tylee's room is pink and brown}. i went up to the cutting counter and i probably looked like a total moron because i told her what i was doing but that i had no idea what i needed. luckily the girl was very helpful and she hooked me up with all the necessary stuff. i had so much fun putting it together {i stayed up all night one night doing it} and i was pretty pleased with how it turned out. look out all you pregnant gals out there, baby blankets are coming your way.

embarrassed alone

we spent the weekend up in boise to see tylee and be with the family. it was super fun. besides the brand new baby, our favorite things about boise are "the boys". braxton and davis. two 3 and a half year olds that are absolutely hilarious. davis is chris's brother and braxton is our nephew. they are six weeks apart and a riot to be around. just after we left, we got a phone call from chris's mom leeann about another funny thing that the boys had done. mckaye, chris's little sister came upon them and they had both peed their pants. after getting after them and getting them cleaned up, she took davis into leeann. after asking him why he {davis} would do such a thing when he knows better, davis simply shrugged his shoulders and said, "well mom, braxton pee his pants first and he be embarrassed cuz he pee his pants and i no want him be embarrassed all by hisself so i pee my pants too." too cute. of course leeann was laughing so hard she couldn't hardly punish him. but honestly what a compassionate person to be so concerned about someone else being embarrassed!

leaving on a jet plane

well, today's the day. we are flying to seattle tonight for chris's final med school interview. he's been working like a mad man trying to prepare for this one. the university of washington is our top choice for school, and from what we've heard, the interview is not easy...at all. his friend mike, who is in his first year at university of washington said that after his interview he threw all of the uw information he had away because he felt it had gone so badly there was no way he was going to be accepted. so needless to say, it's been a tad stressful. this morning when i left for work in a snow storm i freaked out and almost booked an earlier flight so we would be able to leave. but the sun is shining and we're headed off this evening. chris has is interview thursday and then we have the rest of the weekend to explore what will hopefully be our new home! we're so grateful for everyone's prayers and love and support during this stressful time in our life.

cool runnings

yesterday afternoon i needed to let off some steam and i figured since i'd better get going on my mileage for moab, i set off on a run. it has been snowing unceasingly for the mast month and so there is still lots of snow on the ground and chris is very wary of letting me go run by myself. but he had a buddy over, so i figured he couldn't object. i always layer too much on the top so i decided to skip the wind breaker that i usually wear on top of my t-shirt, long sleeve and sweat shirt. i also skipped on the head band over my ears. i had a great run and felt really good. once i get going, i actually prefer running in colder temps as opposed to warmer ones. i like that once i get sweaty and my body warms up, i don't overheat and i can just enjoy the music in my ipod. i originally set out to do my usual 4 miler, but at the turn off to go home, i went straight instead. which ended up adding 2 more miles on. by the time i got back to the house, i was pretty wiped out. i haven't been running on a consistent basis {the last time i ran was over a week ago} and to just go out and run 6 miles probably wasn't the smartest thing to do. since about 20 minutes after i finished my run yesterday, i've been having the usual runner's bowel issues {if you know me well at all you'll know what i'm talking about!} lucky me...happy running
