amazing flick

it's very rare that i see a movie and love it enough to go out and purchase the film to keep and cherish forever. it's unheard of me to do this within 24 hours of seeing a movie...until now.  much to chris' protests, we rented slumdog millionaire from the redbox at the maverick on 3rd and 5th {they usually have the best selection}.  i've always had a strange fascination with all things indian.  and so the minute i heard about this movie i'd been trying to see it, subtly suggesting to chris that we see it.  let me just say this about the movie....awe inspiring.  the cinematography was beautiful, the music was good, the depiction of indian culture was pretty spot on {in my very white girl opinion}.  there were some occasional subtitles, {which are usually hard for me in movies} that were brightly colored and in untraditional spots on the screen.  the story causes one to look at their own life in a new light and appreciate whatever they have and to work harder for those things they ultimately desire.  amazing.  truly. go see it.

back in a flash

obviously i'm not as into the game as chris

becca and calvin enjoying the courtside seats

just like old times {plus baby}

chris and cal intently watching the play

tonight we were lucky enough to have {free} tickets to the utah flash game.  {they're the D-league basketball team that plays down at UVU}.  thanks craig and ange for the hook-up.  we met up with some provo pals and enjoyed a good ball game that went into overtime.  calvin was a super trooper staying out way past bedtime.

confession

what do you do when you've been out of deoderant for 2+ days and haven't had time/desire to go the store to purchase more?

go to the husband's dresser and swipe some of his classic scent Old Spice.

now every time i move i catch a wiff of manly smell.... can't decide if i like that notion or not.

lost and found

as the weather has been trying to get warm over the past few weeks, chris and i decided to bring our mountain bikes out of storage from my grandparents house and chain them up outside our apartment. when we first moved in we were hesitant to leave our bikes outside because of our somewhat sketchy neighborhood surroundings. however, there's a bike that has been chained up outside since we moved in and no one has ever touched it, literally. so we chained our bikes up right alongside this lonely bike, where they would wait for us {and the weather of course}. every time i checked the mail i made sure the bikes were still safely in their place. tuesday when i got home from work i saw that chris' bike was missing. i thought that maybe he had taken it to school, so i didn't really think much more of it. later that evening i had picked chris up from school and when we got home, i asked him if he had taken his bike up to school because it was gone. occasionally we joke with each other about stuff being stolen {not a good idea}, so chris thought this was another feable attempt at playing a prank, since he had not taken his bike to school. after convincing him that i was serious {as a heart attack}, we walked over to where the bikes were chained up and sure enough chris's bike was gone and a cut lock hung loosely around the pipe it had been wrapped around. we both knew deep down that this would happen if we left our bikes outside, but were in some sort of denial. we brought my bike and the BBQ grill {which we had also conveniently locked up outside} into our small apartment... chris was fuming. i was bummed. visions of exploring the plethora of trails nearby vanished.

the following day chris enlisted my help to search through all our receipts {yes we keep ALL our receipts....OCD much?} to try and find the serial number from the stolen bike. he had discovered from a friend who had recently experienced bike theft that police use the serial number to track down missing bikes... who-da thunk? so, i half heartedly looked through our receipts knowing that the ones from 2007, which is when we bought the bikes, were up in storage, rotting or something. of course i didn't find said receipt and chris asked me to call the cycle shop where we purchased our bikes to see if there was any way of finding the serial number of the bike. as he's asking me to do this for him i am thinking in my head, "there's no way there gonna have something two years old on file" oh how wrong and naive am i. i call the bike shop and am almost shocked when, after hardly any effort at all the sales clerk rattles off the serial number of chris's bike. with the serial number, chris filled out a police report and kissed his bike goodbye for good.

then thursday night he gets a call from a police officer asking him when the last time he saw his bike was.... of course he couldn't give a definite answer but the officer coaxed him into saying sunday. chris was confused and then shocked when the officer said that the bike matching the serial number he had put in the report had been pawned at a local pawn shop monday. he even gave the name of the guy who pawned it and asked if chris knew him! stupid thief.

so now, in order to get the bike back we have to buy it from the pawn shop {$100} or wait until the case is closed which could be as long as a year. by paying the $100 we get the bike right back and then when chris has to go to court {i guess filing a report that something is stolen automatically means you press charges} he can file for restitution of the $100 which we may or may not be able to get back. but regardless, i have NEVER heard of a stolen bike being recovered EVER. what a lucky lucky day.

easter festivities

we didn't do a whole ton for easter, but we did enjoy a lovely meal up at my grandmas in kaysville. we dined on traditional easter fare... ham, funeral potatoes, fruit salad and of course fresh baked rolls. yum. we also had yummy cream puff ice cream sundays for dessert.

being with family is a wonderful time to think and reflect on the whole spirit of the season and the atonement of my savior.

open for business: {little lovelies}

for the past few months i've been toying with the idea of opening or starting a business of some kind. and i'm happy to announce that that has finally come to pass. i have opened up an etsy shop called {little lovelies}. it's my little spot for creativity. as of now there are some handmade frames and earrings for sale. i'm super excited/nervous and hope that this will be something i be fortunate enough to be able to continue long term. so if you're in a browsing mood, go check it out here my URL {in case you feel inclined to link to it on your blog or elsewhere} is stacithacker.etsy.com. i wanted to have my shop name {little lovelies} be the URL, however, when i was creating my etsy account i had no creative ideas for shop names. so i guess i'm stuck with stacithacker. check it out and let me know what you think!

{the two earring pics are a sneak peak! those will go into the shop monday night}

absolutely delightful

oh my oh my. i've kind of fallen in love with this little place called red mango. they sell all natural frozen yogurt... sans sugar and flavoring and anything artificial... and top it with fresh goodness. if it wasn't so darn expensive and so far away, i'm pretty sure i'd be tempted to buy it every day. however, i may be cured {or cursed} from my little love affair. while surfing the net the other day i found a recipe for red mango frozen yogurt. i printed the recipe and gathered all the necessary supplies and attempted--somewhat timidly--to recreate the yummy treat. let me just say it was an amazing success. not only was it good {i'm pretty sure i could have polished off the entire batch myself} it tasted EXACTLY like the red mango frozen yogurt for 1/3 of the price. pretty neat-o if you ask me.

{here it is in all it's frozen yummy goodness... topped with strawberries and mini choco chips}

without further ado, the recipe, the secret to happiness.

red mango frozen yogurt

2 c. plain yogurt {greek style works best here}
1/2 c. or less sugar
1/8-1/4 tsp. xanthan gum {this prevents ice crystals and gives that smooth texture}
1/2 c. milk

mix all these together and pour into the ice cream freezer and freeze per directions... if you have a cuisinart like me just flip the switch and set the timer for about 25 minutes.

top with your favorite fruit, cereal, chocolate chips....whatever.

putting a little spring into my step

i have always loved fresh flowers of the non-rose variety. having them around completely brightens my day. last saturday when i woke up to snow, i couldn't help myself. i love tulips and these ones somehow wound up in my grocery basket...oops. every time i see them on the kitchen table i can't help but smile.

yes those are grapefruits and yes they have been absolutely luscious {thanks grandma!}

{makes me smile}

“ don’t wait for tomorrow. don’t wait for the right job, the right house, the right salary, the right dress size. be happy today. be happy now… one thing I know for certain: the time we have here goes by far too quickly. don’t waste any more time sitting on the bench watching life pass you by.” -joseph b. wirthlin

how important it is for us to be happy today! how grateful i am to be a member of a church that gives us this wonderful piece of advice.

SERIOUSLY?!?!

i'm pretty sure this snow {which is barreling out of the sky thick and fast and hard} makes me wanna swear. out. loud.

please can anyone tell me when the sun is gonna shine down on me?
