salt lake temple

while family was in town over the weekend we spent a little time over at temple square. we didn't play things very smart and ended up getting over there just as the visitor's centers were closing...bummer! but we still got some nice pictures as we walked around.
i liked this one of my parents...i think it looks cool with just their shadows
we couldn't figure out why the far right tower had a blue-ish light at the top instead of a white one

white coat ceremony

kingsbury hall

board of MDs present at the ceremony

this weekend we had a ton of family in town for chris's white coat ceremony. it was a really neat way to start the whole process off. we all assembled in kingsbury hall {which is a small performing arts center} and listened to a couple speakers and watched as each member of the class of 2012 was cloaked in his/her first white coat and recieved their first stethescope as well. there were two speakers, a 3rd year student speaker and a well-known, revered alum. both gave excellent remarks about this supposed hell that is medical school. i came away from the whole thing excited and ready for the upcoming years, with an attitude that we can definitely do it. afterward we enjoyed refreshments on the beautiful campus and then some classy mexican cuisine at red iguana. chris and i want to give a huge thank you to everyone who made it out to support us: parents, grandparents, and siblings. we love you all!

back to school, back to school...

this morning we got up and i sent chris off to medical school. i felt a little like a mom sending her kindergardener off to school for the first time. he looked spiffy in his "business casual" attire required for the class photo they were taking this morning. i didn't think i would be so nervous but i was, i was worried he would have nice people to talk to and i was especially worried he would be able to find his classes ok. he gets done in a little while and i haven't heard any bad news thus far, so i'm assuming it's all going swell for chris on his first day of school.

10th WARD MEETING HOUSE

about a week before we got into salt lake, chris and i researched which ward we would be in, where we would be meeting and what time church was...etc. we found that we were in the 10th ward and that church was ironically at 10:00. when we finally were in salt lake for good chris and i set out to find our chapel. we had the address but we drove to the address and even past and saw nothing that looked like it could be an LDS chapel. we did see a huge cathedral looking structure but nothing resembling a typical church or even one that had the sign out front. we drove by several times, finally i made chris stop in front of the cathedrally looking building. on top of the huge church was a sign that said "10th ward meeting house"....i guess this was it. as it turns out, the chapel we meet in for church was the first one built in the salt lake valley and every prophet {except Joseph Smith of course} has bore his testimony there in some way or another, and it was the meetinghouse Gordon B. Hinckley attended all through his childhood. it's pretty neat. there are beautiful stained glass windows everywhere and the chapel has a balcony! {i made chris promise me we could sit up there next week}. i'll try and post a picture after church on sunday.

welcome to SLC

we finally made it to beautiful salt lake city. i have been off the radar for an eternity and so many fun things have happened. we spent a few days in albuquerque with my parents followed by a week at lake powell. after vacationing we came to our new home to attempt getting things settled and organized in our new place. it has been so fun putting everything in it's new spot and organinzing and hanging. {i promise to post pictures in a few days}. we are really happy with our condo as it is in such an excellent location. we are only a block away from TRAX which is the transportation chris will use each day to get to and from school, we are also a block away from out ward building and countless other necesseties such as the grocery store, bank and restuarants. we are also only a few blocks from the gateway shopping center downtown and a few blocks from the salt lake temple. we have really loved exploring the new neighborhood and are constantly reminding ourselves that "we aren't in Provo anymore"! chris starts medical school in less than two weeks and i think i'm starting to be more nervous than he is. but i don't have time to spend being nervous as i have been super busy trying to find a "real" job. we've only been at the job hunt a few days and i've already had a breakdown. but we have been super blessed thus far and are confidant that by putting in the necessary work, things will work out the way they are meant to be. the one thing we are lacking are all of our friends being close by! {but don't worry we recently inherited an air matress which we'll keep inflated for any visitors that may come our way!}
