wedding bells

i am feeling so bad that i'm so slow to post about this, but my cute sister danielle is getting hitched! she and aaron haslam will be married jan. 2, 2009 and we are so excited for them. they have known each other for years and his parents live less than a mile from mine...how crazy is that? i'm happy to have another married sibling and chris is excited to have another son-in-law in the family. danielle has asked that i do her centerpieces for the wedding. we're doing the glass cube vase arrangement similar to this one:

her colors are pink & brown, but she's not being picky about the flower colors. i'm super excited for the chance to get really creative and have lots of fun flowers to work with. i just gave my mom a list of the flowers that i thought would look good in the arrangements and she took off with it. but enough about that. yay for a wedding and the countdown is on.

gardener village

this past weekend, my friend natalie and i ventured out west to gardener village. it's a quaint little gathering of old homes turned into boutiques. neither of us had been before and i had heard it was especially fun around halloween because all the shop owners dress up as witches. there were a handful of cute shops with quilts, fabric and other neat crafty decorations. we sampled some of the best fudge i've ever tasted and had lunch at the one and only food stop in gardener village--archibald's. it was a beautiful day and we got some fun pictures and great ideas for future craft projects.
i'm glad natalie felt more comfortable snuggling next to me instead of that scary witch!
this witch lost control of her broomstick and ran smack into archibald's

warren miller

chris and i had the chance to see the new warren miller film this past friday up in park city. for those of you who are less than enlightened, let me explain: for the past 50-some-odd years, warren miller has put together and extreme skiing movie. he follows skiing to the tops of the highest mountains in the four corners of the earth and films their amazing skiing/boarding skills. some of the stuff is so extreme, that during the filming of this year's movie, a skier named billy poole died at alta ski resort in utah. the footage was absolutely amazing. watching the movie made me super excited for the upcoming winter, and sad that i won't have the luxury of enjoying it. youtube warren miller and you'll be amazed for hours.

TAGGED

i've only been tagged once before, so here goes. according to natalie, i'm supposed to write about 6 quirks....so here goes:

{1} when i sleep, no matter how hot it is, i have to have covers. we have a down comforter on our bed, which chris hates by the way, that i keep on me always no matter how hot it is in our apartment. when we go to lake powell, i bring a sheet just so i can have something over me when i sleep.
{2} other than my underwear, sweats and workout clothes, i hang dry everything i wear. chris always tells me about this new and innovative invention called the dryer that drys your clothes for you {i think it also bugs chris the way i hang everything to dry on the shower rod} . i just like the crisp feel of hang dried jeans and shirts.
{3} i have a terrible time deciding what to order off the menu when we go out to eat. i get so worried that i'm not going to enjoy what i ordered that i stew and stew over it and change my mind like a bazillion times. i'm always the last one to order.
{4} i have a certain process/procedure for the way i do things, which makes it hard for me to ask people for help or have help in the kitchen, house, whatever. i hate being in the kitchen and having people do stuff to help out...weird i know, but i just like things a certain way.
{5} i check my email way too much during the day. i don't even know why i do this because it's not like i get emails from people...EVER. but i just like keeping my inbox empty.
{6} i color code my closet. i've done this since i was in junior high and i can't imagine having it any other way. i always know what i have and shirts don't get lost.

there you have it...i guess i'm one weird duck. i asked chris to give me some ideas about quirks and he said, "what do you do that isn't quirky?" apparently he thinks i'm a weirdo. so i tag...kaitlyn, mccall, gretchen and becca.

work radio

since i am so lucky to stare at a computer in my computer all day long, i've been utilizing my cd's and ipod much much more than i ever have before. we're allowed to use headphones and listen to music. in my listening to my own music, i've discovered a simple truth...my music is old and stinky. i have a couple good songs/cds that i've accumulated, but in the month since i've started working, i've become completely sick of them. chris told me about pandora.com which is absolutely amazing. i've been listening to the likes of regina spektor, ingrid michaelson, mirah, rufus wainwright, rachel mcgoy, norah jones, and a variety of others. be still my beating heart...best music ever. i love it. but who i've been listening to is beyond the point. pandora is great because you type in an artist or genre and it plays a shuffling of music centered around whatever you chose... so whether it's ingrid michaelson {like what i have playing right now}, or george strait {probably what my father-in-law would have playing} it's all good.

tough to be a fan

tonight we watched the cougs play the horned frogs with some friends. after religiously following them for the past 5+ years, i've decided that it's a tough job being a cougar fan. until tonight, they held the longest winning streak in the nation and had hopes of being a major BCS buster. the hype of the "three undefeated" BYU, UofU, and BSU teams was enough to keep chris from studying and get me more interested than usual. as a fan, you generally want and hope the best for your team, and usually, if you're lucky, they don't disappoint. i've learned however, that with BYU, this is not the case. they raise your hopes, only to shoot them down quicker than you can say Rose Bowl. chris wanted nothing more than for bronco to yell at his players and chew some booty. i just wanted max to make a play without getting sacked. after the pathetic loss to TCU tonight, let's just hope that they stay in the top 25.

still good in the world

everyday i walk the 5 blocks to work. at first i was a little wary to walk, what with all the crazy wierdos i see every time i leave the house here in SLC. but i figured it was a good way to get some movement into my day what with being at a desk 40+ hours a week. the first time i walked i spotted this on the sidewalk and couldn't resist taking a snapshot:

trust jesus. what a sweet little tender mercy on my way to my most favorite place on earth {can you sense the sarcasm?} when i pass this little phrase on my way to work each morning i know that although i'd much rather be at home with a baby {like many of my new friends are} doing something that will hopefully better society, i'm doing what i'm supposed to be doing right now. i'm grateful for whoever was brave enough to break the law and "graffiti" the sidewalk.
