oscars

i love seeing all the beautiful people in their beautiful dresses with beautiful jewelry,hair and makeup. i love seeing clips from the movies i've enjoyed or have yet to enjoy from the past year. i've always loved the academy awards. and i enjoy watching them. i had a pretty enjoyable time watching the academy awards last night. i had an enjoyable time, that is, until this man got up to accept his oscar for best actor in the film MILK:

he told me that my posterity would be absolutely ashamed of me for voting against gay marriage. he said:

"And finally, for those, two last finallies, for those who saw the signs of hatred as our cars drove in tonight, I think that it is a good time for those who voted for the ban against gay marriage to sit and reflect and anticipate their great shame and the shame in their grandchildren's eyes if they continue that way of support. We've got to have equal rights for everyone. And there are, and there are, these last two things. I'm very, very proud to live in a country that is willing to elect an elegant man president and a country who, for all its toughness, creates courageous artists"
i'm not usually one to be super offended or get heated over political stuff, but this one totally put a nasty taste in my mouth. to sean penn: i say accept your award for a job well done and get off your soap box. the podium at the academy awards is not the place to enlighten the world with your political views, it's a place to celebrate awesome acheivements and jobs well done. the. end.

ghana bound

last year when chris and i were on our mediterranean cruise, there was one point where we could see africa in the distance. chris was more fascinated with being able to see africa from a distance than almost anything else we did on the entire trip. he's always wanted to go to africa and this summer he finally gets his chance. for four weeks, he's leaving me for ghana. he's going with a doctor and a group of 8 med school students from the U. he'll be travelling all around ghana working in clinics and educating villagers. we've been researching and finding ways to get this trip funded for him. he's super excited and i'm trying to coax my sister to come stay with me while he's gone... we'll see.

widowed wives club

being married to a medical student, it's sometimes hard not feeling like a widow...even when the husband is home he's not really home and so a group of ladies {all medical school widows} have banded together to support and hang together.

every time the men have a hard week of studying and tests a few of the medical school wives get together for some fun... why not? they're working hard, we're not gonna be missed! last thursday night i had a bunch of ladies over for a soup/salad potluck and the latest edition of american idol. we had enough soup to feed an army! we had so much fun visiting, catching up and of course eating and watching idol.

camie martin and melissa stringham enjoying some grub {camie looks amazing for having her baby just two weeks ago!!}

melinda frandsen and julie kiser

nice face hannah! she's so cute and independent it's funny to watch her

sami jones and natalie demill {i think sami was a little drunk off the grapejuice/sprite cocktail :) }

aaron looking as cute as ever! he's up for cochlear implants in a little over a week and we've all been praying things will go smoothly for him and his parents.

camie's adorable newborn mykita. she was born 5 weeks early and is the tiniest, cutest little baby...

problems, problems, problems

this week marks the week that i am officially sick and tired of the wide array of problems we have experienced at our little apartment in the six short months we have lived in salt lake city. when we first moved in we went 6 weeks without a washer/dryer because of incorrect installation which resulted in flooding and all sorts of fun things. a couple weeks ago we got our power bill in the mail. i opened the bill expecting to see a small number and almost fell over when i saw the $120 on the "amount due" line of the bill. imediately outraged, phone calls were made. almost two weeks went by and we had no idea what was going on with the heater/power except that we were paying double what everyone in our complex was paying. this past week we've had a couple different heater/air conditioner people over and they've told us different stories so needless to say, we still haven't found what the real issue is. i thanked our land lady for this lovely problem by short paying our rent what we'd been overcharged for the past three months. then to add insult to injury, chris and i got home last night from a long day of studying and shopping {he did the studying, i of course did the shopping} to find a sink overflowing with dishes, a laundry basket sagging with dirty clothes and a knock at our door with a neighbor and a plumber telling us we couldn't use any water until further notice.... FURTHER NOTICE? thankfully we only had to endure one night/day of no showers and peeing at home {thanks chris and jill!!}. the problem with the plumbing ended up not affecting us at all, thankfully. but our land lady was kind enough to offer her sweet luxury condo up in park city which is currently vacant. {too bad the plumbing is fixed so soon!}
