it's official

i came home from work today and ran straight to the mailbox. as i sifted through the pile of mail, discarding the envelopes addressed to "bardonna zollinger" it wasn't until i had almost reached the bottom of the stack that i realized there was a large envelope from the medical college of wisconsin. chris interviewed with the medical college of wisconsin on november 2 and when he left the interview was told that the decision would be made the following friday {nov. 9} and that a letter would arrive, regardless of the decision, by wednesday the 14th. he felt very nervous about the outcome of his interview because he had been paired with a doctor from india who had a little trouble understanding and connecting with chris on a few of the questions. but back to the story. once i realized that i held our potential fate in my hands i threw the rest of the mail back into the box and ran downstairs to the basement. i was shaking so bad i could hardly get the envelope ripped open, carefully avoiding to rip the fancy gold seal on the envelope. when i finally got the envelope opened, i paused, taking a deep breath. i knew that this moment was huge and only wished that chris was in the living room with me instead of across the country in washington dc. i pulled on the papers inside the envelope, still unsure if i was ready to read the letter. i took another deep breath and shakily pulled the papers out scanning the page for the words i needed to see: "dear mr. thacker: CONGRATULATIONS! on behalf of the admissions committee, it is my pleasure to offer you a space in the entering class of 2008 at the Medical College of Wisconsin" i screamed out loud, even though i knew i was the only one home. i was practically trembling now with excitement as i grabbed my phone and called the doctor-to-be. i had originally thought about surprising him when he got home but the first thing i blurted out was "YOU'RE IN!" he didn't understand me at first so i had to repeat it a few times finally adding that we got the letter from wisoncsin and that he was accepted. chris was so excited. i read him the acceptance letter over the phone and when i finished, a very grateful, emotional and ecstatic voice was on the other end. he has been preparing and working toward the goal of becoming a doctor for as long as i have known him. he has worked harder to get there than i have ever seen anyone work to accomplish something before. all his countless hours of study, preparation and work have finally paid off. we are so grateful and excited that this next chapter of our lives is becoming a reality. we are also very appreciative of the countless prayers and help that went into this process. he couldn't have done it without the help and support of those around him. i am the proudest, happiest wife in the world right now and i didn't even do anything. i have an amazing husband who will make a fantastic doctor when he finished medical school in 2012. CONGRATULATIONS CHRIS!

I must admit this is bitter sweet....but more on the sweet side and only bitter from a very selfish point of view. Wisconsin is no where near Boise...but all the more reason to do some more traveling.Congrats to both of you, you are a stud Chris!
