during the month of june the mormons in the little town of manti host this thingy--they like to call it a pageant--but i'm still trying to decide if that's really what it is or not. just a short drive--well actually like an hour and a half drive--south of p-town it occurs. at "the foot of the manti temple" as the stake president who presided over the thing claimed. chris and i took the drive and found ourselves among thousands of mormons from all around and a block full of mormon protestors. a block or two south from the site of the temple and "pageant" were rows of bathrooms and across the street from that was a field dotted with food vendors. i'm not gonna lie, i felt like i was at the state fair or something. we had packed a picnic and found a shady place in the grass to enjoy it. as we ate our turkey sandwiches and chips, we couldn't help but notice the wide array and vast variety of mormondom that had gathered in manti to see the pageant. you could definitely spot the youth conference groups all wearing matching bright colored T-shirts boasting the same corny one liners, and a stone's throw north of us on the grass, a girl's camp group could be identified as they were circled up playing some confusing looking game that only 12-14 year old girls and their leaders could dream up. laughing as we took our seats among the droves, we continued to people watch until it was dark. i guess i was expecting a miracle since the name of the thing housed that word, "THE MORMON MIRACLE PAGEANT" but i was somewhat disappointed. chris's cousin has spotted us before the start of it and told us it was definitely something you only saw once if that. she was right. i know it was mormon and i suppose it was a pageant, but miracle? miracle? i guess i need to re-look that word up in the dictionary, but don't take my word for it check it out for yourself.

I agree. I saw the pagaent a couple of years ago in Manti and I thought it was cool chillin outside with my friends, the temple was pretty, and.... yep, those were the highlights.
I agree too. If you really want to see a pageant go to the one in Nauvoo. I promise you won't be disappointed.
i didn't know there was a pageant in Nauvoo...neato
i think the miracle is that people still drive to the middle of nowhere to attend every year.
