day three

day three {10 facts about your hometown}

even though i haven't lived in corrales/albuquerque for almost 8 years (gasp! has it really been that long?!?) i still consider it my hometown, since that's where i grew up. so here goes

uno~ you can get green chile on ANYTHING. hamburgers, subway, eggs, pizza, soup, salad, ice cream (no not ice cream, but pretty much). in my opinion in really makes everything taste better. i love a good sandwich or slice of pizza with fresh green chile on top... mm delicious
dos~ the place i grew up has "village" in the title.
tres~ rain is a sparse commodity, but when it does rain you can always count on a fast ferocious and very insane storm with spectacular lightning and thunder
quatro~ every year during the first week of october there's the international balloon fiesta with tons of hot air balloons. it's pretty neat. that's where the picture above was taken
cinco~ corrales, albuquerque and much of the state of new mexico is on indian land. corrales is part of a string of pueblos along the rio grande river.
seis~ it never snows in albuquerque, but it did snow on my wedding day, more than they'd had in 50 years.
siete~ much of the water for fields, farms and gardens comes from irrigation from "the ditch". in the fall, the ditch would drain out and dry up. we liked to look for crawdads and other treasures...gross
ocho~ it's very dry and everything is brown. trees, grass, and other greenery are not super common forms of landscaping and usually if they are used, they turn brown pretty fast.
nueve~ you can't find better mexican food anywhere but here. every place is good and unless you've experienced it you really have no idea. red iguana? please. i remember the first time i went to cafe rio expecting mex like i could eat at home. forget about it.
diez~ there is an awesome paved bike/run trail that goes along the rio grande for forever. you see the pretty green area around the river as well as all the nice super fancy houses. it's where i pounded out many miles on my roller blades.
