i was sitting in chris's apartment, he was making dinner for us and quinn was there too, making dinner. this boy warren from upstairs comes inside and starts talking to us. you know the whole small talk bit they give in provo--where you from, what's your major, where you go to school, etc etc etc (gag gag gag) so he asks where we're all from of course and we respond...quinn and chris from boise, me from new mexico. it's the funniest thing because whenever people hear that i'm from new mexico, most of the time it's like they don't know how to respond. whether it's because they don't know what new mexico is or it's just a crappy place to be from i have no idea, but there it is. instead of looking like a complete retard they will say, "wow that's cool" or "huh, i've never been there" usually no one knows anyone from there so the name game and do you know who i know is out of the question. so this kid starts going on about how people get new and old mexico mixed up. the truth is, stupid as it may sound, is that people mix those two places up quite frequently. in fact, when i was fourteen years old i attended EFY @ BYU (especially for youth at brigham young university for those of you who don't understand mormonisms) and a girl in my group told me i spoke really good english for it being my second language. it turned out that she was a salt lake native. but honestly! do they teach the 50 states in school anymore? i mean sure, i may have been somewhat of a minority in high school and words like "vato" and "vamos" were part of my everyday vocabulary, but i am an american dangit! clearly any other american in their right mind would know this as well.

it's true Stace, you do speak really good english
it's kind of funny, I tell people I'm from Seattle (because I am) and my family lives there, etc. but really I've lived in Provo longer than I've lived anywhere in my life. By the time I leave Provo I will probably have lived here over twice as long as I've lived anywhere else. do you think there is a point where I'm suppose to claim provo?
no way!! claim provo?!? i think not...well i dunno i think i will forever claim albuquerque as my home
